Stony Brook School of Dental Medicine offers opportunities far beyond the classroom. Whether you’re interested in engaging in local outreach initiatives or attending a lecture from an industry expert, there’s something for you. Student organizations have an important impact in providing efficient learning environments for students and can serve as an intermediary for academics, leadership involvement and building friendships with peers.

ASDA- American Student Dental Association
ASDA Stony Brook District 2 Meeting

The American Student Dental Association is a national student-run organization which protects and advances the rights, interests and welfare of students pursuing careers in dentistry. It represents students with a unified voice and provides information, education, advocacy and services. The association introduces lifelong involvement in organized dentistry and promotes change for the betterment of the profession. Stony Brook ASDA is the Stony Brook Chapter of the American Student Dental Association with the goal of making the dental school experience the best it can be for students. From wellness events to social gatherings and conferences, there are many ways members can be involved.

AAPD- American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry
Pediatrics Club The AAPD Student Chapter at Stony Brook University is dedicated to fostering a deeper appreciation and comprehension of pediatric dentistry among dental students. We actively partake in community outreach, gain insights into the path towards becoming a pediatric dentist, and interact with pediatric dental residents during their literature review sessions.
ADEA- American Dental Education Association

ADEA is the foundation of implementing a helpful resource for dental students. In this organization, we collaborate with every class and provide advice on upcoming classes, mentor pre-dental students, and provide insight on what improvements we need as a whole in dental school.

Aesthetics

Aesthetics club is an organization where students interested in aesthetics in dentistry join together for events that include literature reviews of current aesthetic techniques, workshops and seminars on use of digital dentistry for aesthetics like smile design, and guest speakers. This club is dedicated in learning about aesthetic dentistry through case presentations and provide a means for students to learn about principles involved in aesthetic dentistry.

Club CIDT- Center for Implant and Digital Technology
CIDT Logo The mission of Club CIDT is to educate and expand the field of digital dentistry. We train the students of today to be the digital leaders of the future. Through strategic partnerships with outstanding faculty and executives from abroad; seminars, CE courses as well as hands-on workshops are held to produce the best digitally trained dentists out there.
Dental Anesthesiology

The mission of the club is to educate, expand, and advance the field of dental anesthesiology among students at Stony Brook SDM. Through a dynamic and inclusive community, the club will enhance knowledge, awareness, and skills regarding safe and effective anesthetic techniques in dental practice. Our club is dedicated to fostering a collaborative environment where students can come together with residents and faculty to learn, discuss, and explore the field of dental anesthesiology.  We want to provide educational experiences that will expose our members to the unique challenges that DAs face regularly as well as opportunities in dentistry.

Dentistry Declassified
Dentistry Declassified Logo Dentistry Declassified will serve as an adjunct to dental students’ in-class education, as we aim to deliver information about the opportunities and obstacles that students will encounter along their journey in their professional careers. This club is designed to cover some of the most critical topics in dental practice management, corporate dentistry, public health issues, new emerging technology, building social capital, and scientific developments. Geriatric Interest Group

The Geriatric Interest Group (GIG) brings awareness to how we can effectively interact with and treat the geriatric population who present with their own dental, social, and psychological needs. Events we have done in the past include card-writing events for the veterans at the Long Island State Veterans Home, collaborations with the medical school’s Geriatric Interest Group including panels with faculty that focus on treating the geriatric population, and the Health Fair outreach event at Jefferson Ferry Retirement Community.

Welcome to the Hispanic Student Dental Association (HSDA), where our mission goes beyond dental education to address the oral health disparities prevalent in underserved communities. As advocates for change, we are committed to raising awareness about the challenges faced by marginalized populations, including limited access to preventive care, cultural and linguistic barriers, and socioeconomic factors impacting oral health outcomes. The HSDA strives to bridge these gaps through community outreach, education, and service initiatives. The purpose of Muslim Student Association at the Stony Brook school of Dental Medicine is to foster a sense of community, raise awareness, and build bonds that will last a lifetime. 

Operation Smile
Operation Smile Logo

Operation Smile is a global medical nonprofit organization that provides free surgeries for children around the world born with cleft lip, cleft palate and other facial deformities. Every three minutes a child is born with a cleft lip or cleft palate – and many families can't afford the surgery they desperately need. For as little as $240 and in as few as 45 minutes, Operation Smile can provide life-changing surgery – and renewed hope – for children around the world. The goal of the Stony Brook Operation Smile Chapter is to raise awareness and fundraise for these surgeries.

The mission of Smile Stitchers is to bring together people of all skill levels who share a passion for crochet, knitting, and other fiber arts. We aim to create a welcoming community where members can learn from each other, share their knowledge and expertise, and explore new techniques and patterns. Our club is committed to giving back to the community and making a positive impact, all while creating an outlet for people to de-stress. We donate our handmade creations to local organizations, and we seek out opportunities to use our skills and talents to benefit those in need.

This is a student-driven association that promotes and supports students’ lifelong commitment to ethical behavior in order to benefit the patients they serve and to further the dental profession.

Tennis
Tennis Club Tennis club is an inclusive community where tennis enthusiasts of all skill levels can come together to play, watch, and enjoy the sport. This club offers a supportive atmosphere that fosters player development and friendly competition. Events that we hope to have in the near future are skill clinics for beginners, charity tennis tournaments, playing tennis at a local park/school, and club outings. 
Women in Dentistry
Women in Dentistry The Stony Brook Chapter of Women in Dentistry strives to advance the educational, professional, and personal growth of future and current dental professionals. We aim to foster a community that supports mentorship, networking, and leadership opportunities to empower those who identify as women in the professional of dentistry. We are committed to coordinating events and services to support our members’ professional development, while serving the community through volunteer and outreach events that promote oral health and overall well-being. Our mission is to pave the way for an inclusive, equitable, and diverse future in dentistry.
